Why we built Nucleus
The owner shouldn’t be the only one who can get a straight answer.
Every AI tool you open is sharp and completely ignorant of your business. So the real questions keep routing back to the one person who carries the whole company in their head — the owner. We built Nucleus to close that gap: one business context every AI tool can read, so the answers stop depending on you being in the room.
The story
We didn’t set out to build a product. We set out to fix something that was costing us in our own businesses.
Adrian spent nine years running Upstack Studio, a custom software agency — now winding it down to build Second Team full-time. Jayson built CSK Star Packaging into an eight-figure business, and is joining forces with him.
Two operators, two very different companies, the same daily friction: we’d open Claude or ChatGPT, and it knew nothing about our business. Every session started with the same paragraph of background. Every tool trapped that context where it sat. And every time a teammate used AI, the work came back generic — so the real questions landed back on us.
Here’s the part that bothered us most: the AI tools are genuinely powerful, but they’re built for technical people. The owners who’d benefit most — the ones running real businesses without an engineering team — can’t get past the blank box. So the gap between what AI could do for a business and what it actually does stays wide open.
So we built what we needed, and ran it on our own companies first. Then we started Second Team to do one thing: make it easy for non-technical business owners to actually adopt AI — by giving every tool the context it’s missing.
Nucleus is what we use. Upstack Studio and CSK Star Packaging are customer zero. We’re opening it as a free pilot to 100 more owners with the same problem — because the fastest way to find what’s still broken is to put it in the hands of people who run businesses like ours.

Two operators, running their own businesses on it.

What we believe
The owner shouldn’t be the bottleneck.
If every straight answer has to run through the person whose name is on the company, the company can’t move faster than that one person. The job of good context is to take you out of the loop, not put you back in it.
Context belongs to the business, not the tool.
What you sell, who you serve, how you work — that’s yours. It shouldn’t live trapped inside one vendor’s app, re-uploaded every time you switch tools or hire someone new.
It should be built for you, not by you.
A business owner shouldn’t have to be a data team to get AI that knows their business. You have a business to run. The tool should do the building from what you already have.
Right context beats more context.
Dumping everything into a prompt makes AI guess worse, not better. The point isn’t to know more — it’s to know the right thing at the right moment.
We built it for our businesses. Now it’s yours to try.
